The 2024/25 season saw Hastings United Inclusive and Disability First Team finish fourth out of five teams, securing eight points.
Throughout much of the campaign, the squad operated with the minimum seven players required, and on occasion had only one substitute available.
Since then, the team has made significant progress in strengthening squad depth. We now consistently attend our 7v7 league fixtures with approximately 12 players, providing greater stability and competitiveness.
At the conclusion of the season, we held a post-season meeting to outline our objectives for 2025/26 and beyond. A key focus of discussion was how to improve performance and sustainability. Our priorities included recruiting new players, developing our youth pathway, and placing a stronger emphasis on achieving success within the adult league competition.
Having remained on eight points for two consecutive seasons, our immediate objective was clear: to surpass that total and begin a measurable upward trajectory.
To support this ambition, we established a structured three-year plan:
• 2025/26 Season: Achieve a 3rd place finish or higher
• 2026/27 Season: Compete for and secure 2nd place
• 2027/28 Season: Challenge for and win the league title
I am proud to confirm that in the 2025/26 Championship season, the team achieved its target, finishing 3rd out of five teams with 10 points. The players demonstrated outstanding determination and commitment, delivering exactly the progress we set out to achieve.
Attention now turns to the upcoming cup competitions over the next two months. Beginning in April in Worthing, we will compete in a series of fixtures, with the final scheduled to take place in Lancing in May should we progress. These matches provide another valuable opportunity to test ourselves and continue building momentum.
Securing third place represents an important milestone for the Inclusive and Disability Team. It reinforces that we are capable of competing effectively within our league and continuing to close the gap on our rivals.
Most importantly, Hastings United continues to provide an inclusive environment where players of all abilities can access and enjoy football. For many of our players, this opportunity may not otherwise be available. Seeing them participate in and enjoy the sport they love remains our greatest achievement.
We will continue to build, develop, and expand this fantastic team, and we look forward with confidence to the seasons ahead.

Lewis Willard – Head of Inclusive and Disability Team – Hastings United
We are delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Max Walsh
Max joins the U’s to bolster our squad for the important season run in. Max was a big part of the Margate team who reached the playoffs last season, scoring 16 goals along the way.
Dave Altendorff :- “Max is a player I’ve tracked for some time, since he was at East Grinstead. He’s always stood out to me when we’ve faced him. He’s technically excellent, physically he’s in great condition, and he’s a goalscorer which is exactly what we need right now. He doesn’t shirk away from the defensive side of the game either and works extremely hard for the team. He’s a great lad too and will fit in well with the group”
Max Walsh :- “I spoke with the manager and the club this week and the plans for the future are something I wanted to be part of. I’m looking forward to joining the group this week and playing my part in taking Hastings back up to where the club should be“
“I am looking forward to meeting everyone and making my debut in front of the home fans on Saturday against East Grinstead“
Join us at The Pilot Field on Saturday to meet Max as we take on East Grinstead

Following another fun day of fixtures we have an update from Inclusive & Disability Team

First game Vs East Surrey Hawks
Match one 1-1 draw to east Surrey hawks a good game to watch we conceded early and let out heads drop but after a few changes we were determined to fight our way back into the game with our goal coming late into the game as Alex scored throw a Charlie white throw we had a few more good chances but failed to capitalise with the game ending with the points shared we played a compact system using Charlie as the 8 to control play whilst having out wingers cut in to gain possession before pushing outwards in order to try and dictate the momentum of the game this enabled us to get a foothold and get a point out of the game
Second game Vs Worthing Red
Match two 1-0 win against Worthing Red we looked strong from the start and we carried that all the way through with our goal coming early on with Charlie white putting in a shot from range after that we kept searching for a second however our defence proved key as they helped us retain the one goal lead for all three points tactically this was a very rewarding game the plan worked instantly same approach but this time we realised we had the game from the very start it enabled us to become a lot more creative and comfortable on the ball we deserved more than one goal but we managed to come away with all three points
Third game Vs Brighton Greens
Match three 1-0 loss against Brighton greens an unfortunate loss in which we let our heads drop and our chances go to waste sadly our momentum from our impressive win couldn’t carry us to a similar result unfortunately our opponents had a very good counter for us tactically meaning we had to change shape and how we went about playing with our players having to push themselves to their limit and almost getting rewarded for it unfortunately the result doesn’t go our way but it gives us a learning experience on how other teams may set up to counter us

Following the Club presentation in Parliament in July 2025, the Club Owners and Directors have been in constant contact and discussion with a number of Organisations, Individuals and Regulatory Bodies concerning the delivery of the Pilot Field development to secure the long term future of the Club.

Following the Club presentation in Parliament in July 2025, the Club Owners and Directors have been in constant contact and discussion with a number of Organisations, Individuals and Regulatory Bodies concerning the delivery of the Pilot Field development to secure the long term future of the Club. This has also involved consultation with various community interests, professional individuals and further surveys related to various aspects of the proposed development
For very many years, while there has been varying levels of investment ‘on the field’ the Club ground and facilities have been starved of any investment resulting in the current state of the Club infrastructure which is increasingly below what is required and would prevent progression of the Club within the Football pyramid. The new Owners and Directors were very aware of the task ahead and record thanks to all those who have to date, been involved in the assessment and evaluation of the future needs for the Club.
In what is the Centenary year of our famous Main Stand the Club is now able to provide the latest update on the plans for the future and further updates will be provided as the Project now moves forward.
- The Main Stand – previous understanding from earlier reports advised that the Stand would no longer be suitable/available for use beyond the current season. The Club has now received the latest report following a new structural survey and further investigations at the end of last year. While it is clear that the Stand continues to deteriorate, it has been agreed that a programme of ‘Managed Decline’ can be introduced as follows –
- ITEMS REQUIRING ATTENTION IN THE SHORT TERM (prior to 2026–2027 season) • Implement permanent cordoning of upper seating rows in accordance with Drawing 24-0032 SK03 to restrict to lower tiers only (maximum 400 spectators for 2026–2027).
- ITEMS REQUIRING ATTENTION IN SUBSEQUENT PHASES • 2027–2028 season: Further cordon upper rows to achieve maximum 250 spectators (update barriers/signage as required). • 2028–2029 season: Further restrict to maximum 150 spectators. • From 2029–2030: Permanently close all seated tiers; restrict use to ground floor facilities only (remove or secure seats as necessary).
*The Club is happy to make the full Report available for inspection, by appointment, on any match day.
The above ‘Managed Decline’ programme has been accepted and approved by East Sussex County Council, the Regulatory Authority, and complies with HSE requirements and the Green Guide for Sports Grounds.
- Planning – The Club had a pre-planning meeting with Hastings Borough Council on 18th December and we have now received the written response which in summary states – ‘In general terms from a planning perspective, policy is supportive of the proposals to upgrade the sports facilities at The Pilot Field for the use of Hastings United Football Club and the wider community, subject to the material planning considerations referred to in this letter and any technical issues that may arise from statutory consultee responses.’
- Landlord – Hastings Borough Council is the freehold owner of the Pilot Field site and as such the Club is required under the terms of our Lease to have formal approval for any developments within the ground. A formal application has now been submitted to HBC and Landlords approval is awaited but also expected to be granted when planning approved.
- Ground Share – The Isthmian League rules require that a Club who are proposing significant ground development/alterations must have in place a Ground Share arrangement. This is to protect the season’s fixture list should there be a delay in any completion of the development for any reason. When a final decision is taken on the development plans a further announcement will be made with details of the Ground Share Agreement.
- EFT/HUFC joint collaboration – the Education Futures Trust is our immediate neighbour occupying the Firs site and they also are about to embark on a development Project. Please see the Club Statement issued on 27th January 2025, and posted on the Club website, for further details of the intention on the collaborative enterprise.
- Funding – In addition to all of the above planning and discussions the Owners and Directors have also been involved in many consultations with various public and charitable funding bodies and private individuals to secure the funds
- needed to convert the development plans into reality and secure the Pilot Field as the permanent home of Hastings United Football Club.
Finally, the Owners and Directors wish to thank our loyal and fantastic Fans for their understanding and patience during the journey towards the future of our great Club – COYU’s
