Broadfields United vs Hastings United – FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round – Preview
It’s time for some more FA Cup action on Saturday when Hastings United make pretty much the same trip as the First Qualifying Round (to Harefield United), this time to visit Broadfields United located in Harrow, Greater London. Indeed Broadfields used to play at the same ground as Harefield until they moved about seven miles closer to Wembley and their current location.
United’s six-game form – WLWWWW
The ‘U’s are on a roll with four wins on the bounce including three league games and the aforementioned FA Cup win against Harefield United. Sam Hasler has scored in five of seven games this season and in each of the last four games. This makes him United’s leading scorer with six goals. Closely followed by Ben Pope on five goals.
On Tuesday evening United travelled to Burgess Hill Town and journeyed home with three goals and three points, including a rare goal for Ollie Black. His goal proved to be the difference as the home side scored twice in the last 10 minutes to set up a nerve-jangling finale. It’s very early days in the league and United sit in sixth place after five games, though there are just three points between the top six teams. The league table picture will be clearer after ten or maybe fifteen games.
Who are Broadfields United and what’s their six-game form? DWDWWW
Broadfields are dramatically nicknamed ‘The Fighting Cocks’, which sounds like a great name for a rock band. Anyway, they play their games at Tithe Farm Sports & Social Club and it’s a 3G pitch. Also, just like Harefield United, they are members of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division, which is at Step 5.
The ‘FC’s season began on 3rd August with a 4 – 1 win away to London Colney in the league. Since then, due to their involvement in the FA Cup and FA Vase including two draws and therefore two replays, they’ve only played two further league games. Two wins and a defeat has them in 13th place, though they have games in hand as most of the other teams have played between five and eight games.
In last year’s FA Cup Broadfields fell at the Preliminary Round so they’ve already gone two rounds better this time around.
Any recent previous meetings?
As per earlier rounds this year, there’s no information of any previous meetings between these two United’s.
United will be aiming to improve upon last year’s performance and book a place in the 3rd Qualifying Round hat for the first time since 2018. Of course there’s prize money to be won as well as a place in the next round, this time it’s £3,375 for the winners and £1,125 for the losers. If the match is drawn after 90 minutes, there will be a replay.
Saturday 18th September, 3pm kick off at Tithe Farm Sports & Social Club, Rayners Lane, Harrow, Greater London HA2 0XH.
£7 Adults, £4 Concessions.
