Hastings United are delighted to announce Vice-Captain and Players’ Player of the Year, Sophie Reed will be staying with The ‘U’s for the 2021/22 season as the Women’s team prepare for their first year in the London & South East Women’s League.
Reed has been instrumental in the strong defensive record with six clean sheets in eleven games. It’s also fitting to announce this exactly one year on from the first announcement of Sophie joining Hastings United following a short break from the game to recover from an ACL injury after ten years at West Ham United.
Sophie Reed: “After an amazing first season as a team and a big league win, there was no doubt in signing for another season. It was my first season back playing after three years and two major surgeries, I’m absolutely over the moon to have been given players’ player last season and am extremely excited for the new season and challenge ahead in a higher league. This team has huge potential with some amazing players, leaders, supporters, and staff. I’m enjoying my football again at this club and can’t wait to get going this year!”
Billy Wood: “Sophie is such a valuable part of this football club both on and off the pitch. A proper defender who loves a clean sheet and a sliding tackle, when we bought Sophie into the club it was her experience that we knew would help mould a winning team, her value cannot be underestimated in our triumph last season, and I believe she will play a vital role again this year. Again, testament to creating an environment where players are enjoying their football alongside being prepared for the demands of a winning environment.”
