Recent form

United are seven games into the new season and remain unbeaten in normal time.

Three of those games were in the FA Cup including a 1-0 win against Herne Bay, a 0-0 against Chesham United (6-5 win on penalties) and a 2-2 away to Ebbsfleet United (1-4 loss on penalties).

These games were interspersed with four matches in the league. Scoreless draws against Cray Valley and Faversham were followed by a thorough 5-1 beating of Haywards Heath on their own patch. And last Saturday the ‘U’s welcomed and overpowered early league leaders VCD Athletic. A 2-1 win which you can read about here… United vs VCD Athletic Match Report

United are up to 5th in the league table.

FC Romania play in the Isthmian South Central, a league equivalent to United’s South East.

The Wolves scored their first (and second) goals of the season in beating Barking 2-1 away last Saturday. Beforehand they had lost their opening four games. A 1-0 loss in the FA Cup was followed by three further narrow league defeats. They are on the board now and sit in 16th position.

Last season they were in a precarious 19th place when the 2019/20 season was canned having Won 4, Drawn 4 and Lost 20.

FA Trophy last season

United beat Hythe Town and AFC Dunstable away in the early rounds, followed by another away win at Whitehawk after initially drawing 2-2 at the Pilot Field. This meant a long trip over to Weymouth resulting in a narrow 0-1 loss and the end of the journey.

FC Romania had a more straightforward competition, beaten 2-1 by Chipstead in the preliminary round.

Bottom line

The ‘U’s are hitting their straps. Solid in defence, strong in midfield and attack, and the goals are starting to flow. Momentum is key and, whilst the league is the priority, United will be looking to maintain theirs in front of a home crowd.

The winners receive £3,000 whilst the losers receive £775.

A reminder, there are no replays this season, to assist in easing pressure on the football schedule. At the end of the day, there will be a winner.
