Ben Pope commits to the ‘U’s for the 20/21 Season
We are delighted to confirm that Ben Pope has committed to the ‘U’s for the 2020/21 season. Popey was an instant hit with the ‘U’s faithful, scoring 25 goals in his first season at the club, before it was halted early by COVID-19.
“I just couldn’t have enjoyed my football any more than I did last season,” said Pope. “I am absolutely buzzing that I will be coming back to the Pilot Field – it’s a pleasure to play for the supporters and I really cannot wait to restart and get back together with everyone at Hastings United.”
First Team Manager Chris Agutter added, “I am delighted Popey has committed for next season. He gives us extra presence in the forward areas, scores goals and works hard. He is a winner, a brilliant character and a top man to have around the Pilot Field. There is a real sense amongst the lads that we need to finish what we have started, and Popey is key to that.”
Billy Wood, CEO, “The work doesn’t stop. Chris and I are in constant conversation about the club’s future and the fact we need to be ready to go when it’s possible again. The desire to go again by the management team and the squad is powerful towards our culture at the ‘U’s. Ben is a brilliant, honest and hard-working character who has a real eye for goal. I am delighted he will be here next season as we look to get the job complete. The supporters say Popey has a magic hat and he will be wearing it again next season in the colours of the ‘U’s.
