League Cup Group Stage

Sharing is caring!

On Tuesday 24th September Hastings United welcome Three Bridges to The Pilot Field for the second group stage game in this year’s Alan Turvey Isthmian League Cup (also known as the Velocity Sports Trophy).

Both teams registered 2-0 wins in the first round of games and with only the group winners progressing to the knockout phase this is a great opportunity to put some daylight between ourselves and the other teams.

It is the second meeting between the sides in recent weeks, Hastings recording a 2-1 away win courtesy of Ben Pope’s clinical header.

Some years have passed since a Hastings vs Three Bridges League Cup tie. The last encounter occurred in 2012 (Round 3), a goal-fest resulting in a 6 – 4 victory for the U’s.

We can’t promise you a ten-goal thriller but as always, the atmosphere will be superb, and Hastings will be looking to continue their excellent start to the season.

So, come along, bring your friends and show your support. #COYU

A reminder of the format and rules for this year’s competition

There are ten regional groups comprised of the First Division teams. Hastings United are in group four (along with Burgess Hill Town, Chichester City, East Grinstead Town, Haywards Heath Town and Three Bridges). Teams will play each other home and away.

It’s three points for a win but no extra time if the match is drawn, instead each team is awarded one point and the game moves directly to a penalty shootout with the spot-kick winners picking up a bonus point. Also, each team can name and use up to five substitutes.

On conclusion of the group stages, the ten group winners will join the Premier Division teams in the last 32 as the competition reverts to a traditional knockout format.
