Highly rated groundsman calls it a day

It is with great regret that the Club announces the resignation of groundsman Simon Rudkins who will leave his post on 31st July 2019.

Simon has been a great asset to the Club for 20 years the last 11 of which he has been the Club’s groundsman.

Simon’s groundsmanship has been excellent and very much appreciated and I am sure all of the Club’s managers and players during his period as groundsman have been delighted with the excellent playing surfaces he has produced which have been the envy of many clubs in the Isthmian League. In addition the Club’s directors and supporters have also highly praised his work on a very regular basis.

Simon has put more hours in over recent seasons as pitch use has increased. Due to this and the fact he feels pitch use will increase even further, and with other circumstances for him also being a prevalent factor he has decided it is the right time for him to relinquish his role with the Club. Unfortunately the Club has been unable to convince Simon that it will not allow the pitch to be overused.

The board are very disappointed that it has not been able to get Simon to continue in post but very much appreciate the reason for his resignation decision and thank him for his tremendous service and wish him all the best for the future. Simon will always be welcome at the Pilot Field.

The Club’s task is now to find a replacement for Simon. He will be a very hard act to follow! The Club will be advertising what is a part time flexible hours post. Any interested party is welcome to forward a CV in application to – david.nessling@hastingsunited.com
