United’s Development Squad put in an excellent performance tonight at Aveley FC’s new stadium in the League Cup Final beating Wingate and Finchley FC by two goals to nil via two second half strikes by substitute Luca Page on 65 and 87 minutes.
United’s youngsters, boosted by first team regulars Sam Adams, Jack Dixon and Sinnkaye Christie put in a terrific energetic but well controlled performance that produced a fine win against solid opponents. Sam Adams deserved to give United a half time lead when his lob hit the underside of the bar and appeared to cross the line but the match official and his assistant waived play on. Video evidence later showed the ball had crossed the line. Louis Rodgers was excellent in goal for United. Calm and assured throughout with two great one on one blocks. Although Wingate came at United strongly late on United held on with assurance and made the game safe on 87 minutes when Page struck for the second time.
