The HUFC Academy U12s played the Crowborough & District Junior Football League U12s Knock Out Cup today against Hawkhurst Utd.

Hastings settled well into the contest early and pressed Hawkhurst high up the pitch.

On a very big albeit wet and sticky pitch Hastings used the width well and moved their opponents around the pitch. Marshalled superbly by Liam Ridgers at the back, who put in some crunching tackles early on. Hastings however did not let Hawkhurst near their goal and looked threatening every time they went forward.

They took control of the midfield with Sam Atkins just sitting in the middle controlling everything and getting the team moving. Jermaine Tate was equally impressive popping up in all areas of the pitch to link play. These two and Captain Freddie Smiles were all contenders for man of the match today which was eventually awarded to Liam Ridgers.

In a very dominant performance, Hastings were strong and powerful throughout the contest and ran out as comfortable 7-0 winners to claim their first piece of silverware this season.

Despite this being their first year together, the progress of this group has been amazing.

They were always trying to play out from the back and look to work the ball around the pitch waiting for openings. Despite the execution not always being there, the ideas were always the right ones and they were always quick to win the ball back.

A great team performance today from all the boys though as they represented the Hastings United Academy with pride and excellence from the minute they arrived.

Goalscorers were:Β Liam Ridgers, William Ray, Sam Atkins, Archie Wilson x 2, Jermaine Tate x 2
