“Rodari Exterminates the Wasps”
Hastings United 12 East Grinstead Town 3
“Hastings United put East Grinstead to the sword in clinical manner Tuesday night. Racking up their biggest winning score in the post war era with striker Davide Rodari also writing himself into the record books as joint highest scorer in a game. An incredible 8 goal tally that was last achieved by a player called ADFIELD on 26th September 1931 for the then Hastings and St Leonard’s.
Just 24 hours earlier, the club had accepted a switch of fixture from East Grinstead’s waterlogged stadium and found themselves racing against clock and weather as club staff battled all day to get the game on. They were to be rewarded with one of the most astonishing displays and a night that few of the 181 strong crowd will forget.
